GENERAL INFORMATION
Samui island has gone through amazing transformation from “The Island of Coconuts”. To be one of the most popular tourist deatinations in South East Asia.
Koh Samui (Koh meaning island ) is the third largest of Thailands' islands, and sits in an archipelago of some 80 islands. It is 25km long and 21km wide.
Samui has made a rapid move into the tourist industry over the years, with accommodation ranging from five star resorts to very basic beach huts for the visitor to choose from.
Long stretches of golden sand and swaying palms have proved irresistible and the once quiet stretch of Chaweng Beach is now, at times, rather too crowded. The inevitable march of time has also taken its toll on the walkway at the back of this beach, which is for the moment suffering through roadworks and improvement.
For the more adventurous traveller, the islandís interior has plenty of attractions to explore. The two inland waterfalls at Na Muang and Hin Lad have crystal clear water and are perfect for a relaxing little dip. A new way to see some of the islandís interior is to take a tour with the Quad company. The fat-wheeled machines can go over all kids of terrain, and with a little practise are easy to handle. More conventionally, motorcycles and jeeps can easily be hired at many places, or take a seat in one of the songthaews that go to all.
Party Time.
The call of sea is answered with theme parties that capitalize on the environment. Take your guests for a “Silver service” barbecue on a deserted island. Then stage a fun “Pirate Raid” to liven up the proceedings. |
